Scope of works: Oliver Connell & Son Ltd were appointed by Redrow to construct Block D large basement and RC Frames above as part of the current phase at Colindale Gardens. Block D1 is a 22 storey RC frame and we opted to slide the main core to remove this from the programme critical path. Block D2 and D3 are 11 storey and 7 storey respectively and these are currently being constructed traditionally. The core base to Block D1 comprised 620m³ concrete and this was poured on a Saturday to ensure continuity of concrete supply from the bathing plant, and we developed a low heat concrete mix design to reduce the likelihood of thermal cracking of the core.
