Meridian Water – New Station Construction

Rail

Client:
Network Rail

Scope of works:
Oliver Connell & Son Ltd were contracted to build the new station building for Meridian Water Station as part of the upgrade to the WAML (West Anglia Main Line).

The work was carried out over two weekend possessions and supplemented with midweek day working adjacent to the live rail lines. The work was complete ahead of programme.

Oliver Connell strategically positioned 2 cranes to carry out the installation of the precast components with some elements weighing up to 48tonne. A 500tonne mobile crane was sited on the east section of the project and a 200tonne crawler crane on the west.

In total, we installed over 1750tonne of pre-cast concrete, which included 5 number lift shafts, 3 new platforms, new platform walls with spine beams placed on top, two stairs cases to the concourse level and the new concourse for the new station.

The works were completed with the insitu concrete slab poured to the concourse level. The new station is due to open in mid 2019 and is anticipated to serve up to 4 million passengers per annum at peak.

Project Teams worked through the possession with precision to install precast components

Alignment & Verticality Checks were carried out through the works to ensure the track could be safely handed back at the end of each possession.
