Scope of works: Oliver Connell & Son Ltd were contracted by Volker Fitzpatrick to carry out the substructure and superstructure to Birmingham University Station. This was an extremely challenging project which required months of planning. The superstructure was a full precast concrete solution with over 600 components of precast some weighing up to 22ton in weight. The complete superstructure scope was delivered during weekend possession time working. At peak weekends, Oliver Connell & Son Ltd had 4 number mobile cranes serving the precast installation. Due to the location of the project, Oliver Connell had an interface with multiple stakeholders including Network Rail, Highways England, Canal & River Trust & Birmingham University while also being mindful to the close proximity to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The project was delivered ahead of schedule with no LTIs. Over the course of the project, Oliver Connell employed 2 local apprentices and carried out numerous community engagements projects as part of our commitment to social value.
